Tiaodao, which means jumping knife in Chinese, is a traditional ceramic processing technique in which a craftsman uses a knife to carve different patterns on rotating pottery that has been shaped but not fired. The technique not only tests the aesthetics and patience of the craftsman, but also is quite labor intensive. The knife edge looks like its dancing gracefully on the pottery.
